Resumo A obesidade é definida por um IMC≥30 e está associada a inúmeras co-mobilidades. A sua prevalência a nível mundial tem aumentado dramaticamente nas últimas décadas, sendo tão elevada que a OMS considera esta doença a epidemia global do século XXI. Em Portugal a obesidade também constitui um sério problema de saúde pública. Neste sentido, realizei um estágio extra-curricular, com a duração total de aproximadamente 400 horas, inserido na área dos Cuidados de Saúde Primários, que teve como principais objectivos implementar uma estratégia de redução de peso em utentes obesos no contexto dos cuidados de saúde primários, bem como iniciar um programa de rastreio de co-morbilidades associadas à obesidade. Foram rastreados 174 utentes, dos quais resultaram 30 obesos que participaram no programa. Este consistiu em reuniões individuais que tinham por objectivos uma educação terapêutica, abordando temas como estilos de vida saudáveis, co-morbilidades associadas à obesidade e benefícios da perda de peso; e o rastreio de co-morbilidades existentes nos doentes obesos. Durante o estágio, tive ainda a oportunidade de participar em actividades no âmbito da saúde pública relacionadas com a prevenção da obesidade.
